Rocky Mount, Virginia
Firm accepts Clean Valley Council award on behalf of Northside High School
The Partnership recognized the firm for the improvements and enhancements it made to the property which “beautifies the central business district, and helps expand civic pride within the Town of Rocky Mount,” says Katie McElroy, Executive Director. The Clean and Beautiful Awards were developed in 2005 to recognize property owners that have made significant efforts to create aesthetically attractive buildings and building locations. The award was presented to Spectrum Design on July 23.
“It’s an honor to receive this award for the N. Morris Building,” says John Garland, President and Principal of Spectrum Design. “It is a remarkable building that is steeped in Rocky Mount history. We were pleased to restore it to its natural beauty, prepare it for modern-day use, and ensure it will be a building the Town continues to uphold with pride.”
Spectrum Design purchased the N. Morris Building in 2007 from the Historic Rocky Mount Foundation and in 2009 completed a nearly $1 million historic preservation and restoration of the building utilizing state and federal historic preservation tax credits and making it the first project in Rocky Mount to do so.
Spectrum Design also formally accepted the Clean Valley Council Government Award on behalf of Northside High School in Roanoke at an awards luncheon on July 9. The school received the award on a recommendation from Spectrum Design which installed its 154-well geothermal heating and cooling system, making it the first school in Western Virginia to benefit from the energy saving technology.
Spectrum Design conducted a review of the school utility records which have indicated an almost 90 percent drop in natural gas usage and a 15 percent drop in electrical usage since the completion of the renovation.
