Spectrum Design provided plumbing, fire protection, heating and air conditioning, electrical, mechanical and structural engineering services to renovate the historic Patrick Henry Hotel located in downtown Roanoke into 112 apartment units, a restaurant, coffee shop, as well as other commercial spaces. Part of the renovations included a high-efficiency water source heat pump that integrates with the unique existing architectural elements which have been maintained in the building. For the commercial tenant spaces, consisting of a donut and coffee shop - Blue Collar Joe's, a restaurant - First & Sixth, the law firm Wolfe Williams Rutherfoord & Reynolds, and a radio station -101.5 The Music Place, Spectrum Design provided all of the above plus architectural services. Patrick Henry visitors will notice preservation of the existing building features combined with accommodations to meet the modern needs of the business and residential uses of the building. The existing lobby, grand ballroom and Jefferson ballrooms have all been preserved to retain the existing architecture. The office suites have been designed to meet the needs of the commercial tenants in an elegant style that echoes the classical details of the historic hotel.
