Spectrum Design, in collaboration with Barry Rakes and Hill Studio, led the restoration of Roanoke’s Historic Virginian Passenger Station, originally built in 1909. After a devastating fire in 2001 destroyed the roof and interior, the project restored the station to its original appearance using historic drawings, photographs, and surviving materials, including original tile and terrazzo flooring.

Today, the station is owned by the Roanoke Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society and serves as an exhibit and meeting space. The project received Preservation Virginia’s 2016 Gabriella Page Award for Outstanding Preservation Project and the Blue Ridge Chapter AIA 2022 Honor Award.
