The restroom improvement project at Squires Student Center transformed six outdated restrooms into modern, inclusive facilities that better serve today’s students. Guided by Virginia Tech’s commitment to Inclusion and Diversity—and informed by feedback from Student Services and Campus Life—the design prioritizes privacy and accessibility.
In response to student preferences for fully enclosed toilet stalls, conventional partitions and urinals were replaced with private toilet compartments throughout. The most significant change occurred on the first floor, where the existing men’s and women’s restrooms were combined into a large, all-gender configuration. Features include a bright, welcoming public handwashing area, multiple entrances, fully enclosed stalls for privacy, and two larger compartments designed for caregivers and individuals needing assistance.
